The original idea from way back when was scrapped because it they decided it sounded too much like Lord of the Rings to be able to be a successful movie. The current (newer) movie idea is going to be based on more recent, less-LotR-like plotlines.
This video could had been more totally awesome if the cinematics of the first two legendary RTS games of Warcraft had been included...
